During my artist residency in China, I visited many natural reserves. At the Shizhangdong waterfall, tourists buy colourful plastic ponchos to protect themselves from the mist. They visit the waterfall for an average of one hour, then throw away the useless plastic. At the end of the trail, the trash cans are brim full of bright colors. It is said « Only imbeciles see beauty in beautiful things. » This installation is a presentation of the plastic ponchos that I gathered from the trash at the waterfall, a confrontation with responsibility.
The plastic waterfall moves with the wind of a hidden fan and a video of the Shizhangdong waterfall is projected on it, leaving reflections that jump from color to color. On the facing wall hangs the painting « Responsable », which represents the tourists wearing the ponchos on the cliffs during their visit.
